Anusha Kodituwakku wins bronze in women’s boxing

Sri Lankan boxer Anusha Dilruskshi Kodituwakku won the bronze medal in the women’s 45-48kg boxing event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast Australia this morning.

She was defeated in the semi final match by celebrated Indian boxer Mary Kom (3-0).

Mary Kom, has won five World Amateur Championship Gold medals as well as five medals in Asian Championships, a bronze in 2012 Olympics, a gold medal in Asian Games, and today secured her Commonwealth Games medal which eluded her in 2014.

Kodituwakku earlier beat Brandy Barnes in the Women’s Boxing 45-48kg quarter-final bout by Technical Knockout at the Games 2018 on Sunday.

Sri Lanka has now won 4 medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games thus far including 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals.

Meanwhile the semi final boxing event of the men’s 46-49kg with Sri Lanka’s Thiwanka Ranasinghe is scheduled for Friday.

Lankan sprinter Rumeshika Rathnayake also qualified for the women’s semi final of the 200m event.
